Digilent Announces the Digilent Design Contest 2014

Pullman, WA – Digilent Inc. proudly announces the Digilent Design Contest US 2014. The contest will be held at on May 3rd and 4th in Brooklyn, NY. The contest is sponsored by the New York City College of Technology – CUNY (City Tech), Digilent, ARM, and Xilinx. City Tech is located in the center of downtown Brooklyn and a part of the rapidly expanding Brooklyn Tech Triangle.

The Digilent Design Contest is an engineering design contest open to all students enrolled in any educational institution. For this contest, students are challenged to create an original project using Digilent boards. These include FPGA boards featuring state-of-the-art Xilinx FPGAs, ARM processors (system-on-chip hardware design), or chipKIT boards based on the Arduino development environment.

The 2014 US contest will feature a high school division focusing on embedded systems and robotic projects running on chipKIT – PIC 32 Arduino-compatible microcontroller boards.

Contest enrollment begins on September 23rd, 2013. Project presentations and judging will take place on May 3rd and 4th, 2014 in New York City College of Technology. Projects will be evaluated for creativity, feasibility, and originality. Digilent will award generous cash prizes to the top finishers and will donate the hardware used by contestants. Top-ranking teams in the Design Contest 2014 will be invited to attend the Digilent Design Contest Worldwide Finals in September 2014 in Shanghai, China. There are also a small number of travel scholarships available.

Digilent president Clint Cole said, “As part of the 10th anniversary of the Digilent Design Contest, we are expanding the contest to K-12 students. We encourage them to engage in engineering, which is a vital part of STEM education. The aim of the Design Contest is to encourage students that learning engineering is a fun activity.”
